That's Life

Hello from the Little Brown Cabin. It’s been a while since we talked. My fault. Well, actually, life got in the way. A favorite 92-year-old uncle, gone. A dear friend lost to cancer, and major surgeries for me and my brother. Good things happened too, like witnessing two of my friends getting married, sharing successes with creative friends, and losing at weekly trivia games (yes, losing is still fun because I’m with friends), two new friends joined our jam sessions by moving here from Texas, and I’m learning a new stringed instrument; the psaltry.
Now, I sit here on the porch and watch my colorful summer flowers turn to the golden- brown hues of fall. Though my getaway by the lake seems to die this time of year, there is a brightness on the horizon. I have good news!
My second novel, Light in the Dark Forest, releases on November 12, 2025. It’s available now for pre-orders. www.gencybrown.com. If you’re in the area, you can attend the launch party on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Books On The Bosque in Albuquerque. As always, I appreciate their support through my writing journey.
I have a short story published in the upcoming issue of ABQ In Print 9, which launches on November 22, 2025, also at Books On The Bosque. I was to read my story at that event, but I’ll be in Tehachapi, CA, house and animal sitting for friends so they can take a trip and enjoy being free of the menagerie for a bit. Menagerie? Zoo? See, there are 5 indoor cats, 2 outside bloodhounds, 2 horses, and let’s say about 20 feral cats. I’ve enjoyed this twice-a-year little chore for over 10 years now. Gee, it’s nice to be a trusted friend.
Yes, life is eventful and exciting, even though sometimes it gets in the way. Notice how many times I said friend in this blog? Friends are the best part of life, aren’t they? I consider you a friend, and hope you’ll join me again at my Little Brown Cabin.
